In Melbourne’s inner city and densely populated Richmond, there’s an eye-catching triangular building that’s beginning to stop traffic as its construction takes shape: Jaques apartments. Karl Fender of Melbourne architects, Fender Katsalidis, designed this spacious, contemporary apartment block, which houses just 56 luxury apartments, targeted at the owner-occupier. Priced between $400,000 to $2,000,000, they not only offer luxury amenities, but easy proximity to Bridge Road shops, as well as West Richmond train station and the CBD.
What’s so striking about the external façade is not only Karl Fender’s choice of striking Pressed Red brick, but also the cost effective and efficient Brick Inlay System, supplied by Robertson’s Façade Systems, that is being used to build it. During construction, Westkon Precast has placed over 100,000 Pressed Red thin brick tiles in to concrete of the external panels. And thanks to the clever brick inlay system, each panel is created off site, and quickly and efficiently installed on site, with no mess, and no fuss.
While still a significant work in progress, as you can see, the results speak for themselves. Not only has the construction been fast and efficient, but the choice of Pressed Red brick perfectly complements the historical buildings nearby.
